Review

This app simulates the classic game of draughts (also known as checkers) in a simple and easy to play style. The game follows the universally known rules of draughts requiring the player to move their pieces to the other side of the board in diagonal moves. This app would be suitable for people who have never played before, as well as experienced players, as the app features helpful hints to assist the player throughout the game (which can be turned off, if preferred). The app boasts an extensive list of customisable options, enabling users to personalise their game to the most aesthetically appealing and required level of difficulty. Players have the option of playing against the computer, another human on the same device or online. 

The free version of the app, which we recommend, offers the full game but with the unobtrusive presence of adverts in a narrow strip at the top of the screen (see image). However, if preferred these can be removed via an In-App Purchase.

Recommended settings

For this app, we recommend using the default settings, meaning that on opening the app for the first time you could start playing immediately. 

However, there are optional settings which can be accessed by tapping the Menu in the upper right corner and then Settings. 

• Difficulty: Easy, Medium or Hard

• Change Rules: Italian, English, Spanish, International or Custom

• Change Theme: Apple Sauce, Classic or Crystal

• Sounds (tap to turn off/on)

• Swap Colours (tap to alternate black/white pieces at the top/bottom)

• Hints (tap to turn off/on)

• Remove Ads (In-App Purchase, costs £1.49)

• Restore Purchases (tap if you have paid to remove ads previously)

For multiplayer games, tap Settings, then tap the Players icon once for a 'pass and play' game on the same device or twice for an online game.
